Superworm Day success!

Talking Tots West Sussex held an outdoor event in partnership with a local nature reserve.  The event was themed around the popular book, Superworm by Julia Donaldson, and the purpose was to get children outside enjoying nature in a way that celebrated literature and reading.

The event included entry to the reserve, a reading of the story followed by the action song, There's a Worm at the Bottom of my Garden, which class leader, Jeanette, adapted to include animals from the book.  After that, the children took part in a treasure hunt where they looked for and found pictures and models of characters from the book which had been hidden all round the reserve, enjoyed finding out about how worms live and how they feel at our 'meet the worms' activity, identify a crow's feather which was hidden among lots of other birds' feathers and make a worm out of pipe cleaners and cheerios and a dangly spider at our craft tables.
There was also a photograph competition and the winner received a copy of Superworm and a year's family entry to the Warnham Local Nature Reserve.
120 people attended the event and feedback has been wonderful.  What a great way to spend a day!
