Back to Books 2016

Talking Tots National Back to Books Week

7th-13th November 2016

We love books at Talking Tots!

Reading stories with your children is a great way to bond, but did you know it's also one of the best ways of boosting your little one's communication skills?

Through books, children learn to love language and reading helps them to communicate confidently using spoken and written language. These skills are vital to all children: skilful communicators find it easier to make friends, to learn about the world around them, and to express their thoughts and feelings.

Research shows that children who regularly read stories tend to perform better at school, have wider vocabularies and better imaginations. Yet almost a quarter of parents admit they struggle with the bedtime story routine.

“Parents often don’t realise how important stories are. Sharing stories with children stimulates their memory, vocabulary, social and emotional skills, giving them a real head start in the classroom,” said Lisa Houghton, co-founder of Talking Tots. “A great story is like a rocket engine for your child’s imagination – you’ll be amazed at the conversations you can have about their favourite characters.”

We at Talking Tots are excited to be doing our Back to Books week 7th– 13th November for the fourth year, to raise awareness of how communication & literacy is at the heart of Talking Tots. There will be lots of fun activities in classes that week, including book swaps and dressing up as favourite book characters. There’s a competition too, where we will be asking parents to take pictures of their children reading books in unusual places. The prize is a Rose Petal Cottage and accessories, worth IRO £150.00! Send your pictures as well as the name of your child's favourite book to  NB: closing date for entries is 10pm on 30th October. We will be putting an album on FB on 1st November, where you can tag yourself on your child's picture. The picture with the most 'likes' by 10pm on 13th November is the winner!

NB: We reserve the right to use all entries for publicity purposes.
